Germany-based Ravas has complemented its popular iForks FLT scales with simple weigh beams. These have a 10t capacity and are constructed from legal-for-trade components and supplied with a calibration certificate. Like the iForks, the beams can also be supplied with the Ravas SOLAS App for computing container VGMs.
The weigh beams are aimed at goods that require weighing, but their irregular dimensions or excentric load centres make them difficult to stuff into a container using an FLT, let alone weigh them on one, while floor scales may not be big enough or may be unsuitable.
Two beams are used to weigh the load, but they are not structurally connected to each other, so any crate or pallet with special dimensions will fit. The beams can also run up to several metres in length. By positioning them on the floor as required, any crate or pallet can be weighed on them, and then, say, lifted into an open top container.
Ravas added that its iForks are proving popular with 3PLs and packers using SOLAS Method 2 to arrive at the VGM for LCL shipments. Weight data from iForks and weigh beams are communicated with the ERP or WMS warehouse management software.
During the planning stage, the ERP compiles the loading list for a container. It adds up the registered weights of individual shipments on the list and adds the container’s tare weight to compute the VGM.
