Antwerp’s cold comforts

A fire on the Silver Sun at a dry dock in Antwerp trapped 25 people due to heavy smoke but was quickly controlled, prompting a medical emergency plan.

The inquiry on the WOW project for Antwerp’s ECA complex is complete, and the port’s expansion plans aim to boost capacity from 15 to 22 million TEU by 2030.

Sallaum is investing €20 million in Antwerp Terminal to expand capacity, aiming for 17,000 units and net zero emissions by 2030.

“We do not sell these products ourselves; it is the demonstrators themselves that decide who they partner up with,” the port said in the statement to WorldCargo News.

The relative good behaviour will be related to the EUR 1,000 per person fine that Antwerp-Bruges and North Sea Port have secured before court earlier this week.

Tuesday (13 February) saw disgruntled farmers use their tractors to blockade roads around Europe’s second largest container port, Antwerp, severely disrupting traffic flows into the port and affecting overall cargo-handling operations.
