Tackling the landside crunch
SSA Marine is having success expanding the ‘free flow’ programme at its T-18 terminal in Seattle. Free flow enables motor carriers to work with their BCOs to aggregate import containers at a terminal in dedicated stacks. The containers can be loaded on to road trucks without any shuffling. This eliminates ‘digging’ for import boxes with an RTG. Instead, trucks are loaded with the first available container from a free flow pile.
