Nexxiot telematics for ‘Intelligent’ tank cars

VTG is investing tens of millions of euros to build a carbon-neutral workshop for the maintenance and repair of its freight wagon fleet.

US-based leasing company GATX has placed a huge order for new rail cars with Trinity Rail, part of Trinity Industries Inc.

Switzerland’s Wascosa AG has supplied its 500th FFS (flex freight system) modular, multipurpose Sgmmns-type freight car. The customer for the landmark delivery is Sersa Switzerland, part of the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group.

Gdansk-based rail freight company Lotos Kolej is investing in a new electric-propelled locomotive and its own flatbed wagons in a move that it believes will save it costs and give it greater control over its existing operations.

VTG AG, Europe’s largest rail wagon hire company and a leading provider of rail and container logistics services, has acquired the Želos wagon workshop in Trnava, Slovakia. Founded in 1994, Želos specialises in repairing, maintaining, modernising and rebuilding rail freight wagons. Local management and staff and the Želos name will remain unchanged.

Sigrid Nakutta, a Board member of Berlin-based DB AG, has stated that €200M is being invested to install ‘whisper brakes’ in all of DB Cargo AG’s 63,000-strong wagon fleet. Already, the programme is 90% complete and should be finished by the end of 2020.
