The Saga of Mafi

MAFI Transport-Systeme GmbH and Arnold NextG join forces on retrofitting MAFI vehicle platforms with a multi-redundant drive-by-wire system.

Germany-based tractor manufacturer Mafi Transport-Systeme GmbH has provided more information on the 33 T230 F 4×2 terminal tractors it supplied to DCT Gdansk for its new T2 terminal. As previously reported (WorldCargo News, October 2016, p50), the machines are fitted with Cummins Stage IIIB engines matched to an Allison gearbox, and are provided with a fixed 5th wheel. The maximum chassis payload is 65t.

Mafi Transport-Systeme GmbH has launched a new version of its 45t fifth wheel tractor aimed at heavy industrial applications, designated HD 445. The model, presented at the Transport Logistics Fair in Munich in May, is equipped with a Stage IV Volvo engine with an output range from 235 kW to 285 kW, and the latest ZF 6WG 310 automatic transmission with a gear warning system. GCW is up to 250t.

RTG handling systems have been subject to increasing scrutiny from an environmental standpoint. Although RTGs are big polluters per se, their impact is dwarfed by terminal tractors, because of numbers.

Germany-based Mafi Transport-Systeme GmbH has launched two new 4×2 terminal tractor models, type T225 or T230, equipped with Euromot Stage IIIB/USEPA Tier 4 interim engines. The new machines have a GCW of 120t and a capacity of 34t on the 5th wheel, which is increasingly required in container terminals using twin 20 spreaders on their STS cranes.
