Gold goes for growth
Gold Container, which is owned by the French Touax Group and is currently ranked as the world’s 11th largest box lessor, increased its operating container fleet by almost 20 percent in 2003. This equated to the addition of 35,000 TEU to give a total fleet size of 215,000 TEU by the end of the year.
In total, Gold purchased more than 45,000 TEU in 2003 and disposed of around 10,000 TEU. The company also purchased its first ever reefer boxes during 2003, although the final number received was small. The current fleet boasts an average age of 3.5 years, with over 95 percent of containers featuring a full-Corten build and 30-tonne rating.
