Gigaliners get green light

After five years of tests, not supported by all the German states, as of 1 January 2017, gigaliners – 25.25m-long drawbars, also known as eco-combis – can be operated on German roads legally. The test phase was conducted with a total of around 160 gigaliner rigs, under the auspices of the Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen (BASt), the federal department for roads. The results are said to be positive, and are due to be published before the end of 2016.
