Volpi steps in for Marghera operator

The Québec Port Authority (QPA) has announced plans to build a new deepwater container terminal in Québec City, at the site of its Beauport 2020, on the north side of the St Lawrence River.

Italian business interests are reportedly prepared to invest up to US$100M to build a new cargo handling terminal at Georgia’s Black Sea port of Poti. According to Pino Musolino, president of the North Adriatic Seaport Authority (Venice Porto Marghera and Chioggia), the project is aimed at expanding the port’s annual handling capacity by 50 Mtpa.

The Marseille-Fos port authority is making a further 50-ha of space available for development at the Feuillane logistics park, close to the Fos container terminals. The initiative marks growing demand for large-scale warehousing, a trend that is being echoed in nearby Distriport.

Portugal’s ETE shipping group, which owns cabotage operator Transinsular, has made a proposal to the Cape Verde Government to establish a West African hub port operation. To this end, it has established two new companies, ETE Cabo Verde Operações Portuárias Lda and Transinsular Cabo Verde Transportes Marítimos Insulares de Cabo Verde Lda, and will shortly submit a proposal to take over the management and operation of the ports of Praia, Mindelo, Palmeira and Sal Rei.
