German crane manufacturer Ardelt Kranbau has replaced a slew bearing on a 32-year-old crane at Terminal Kleinhüningen in Basel for logistics provider Ultra Brag AG.

Ardelt Kranbau manufactured the crane under its previous brand name, Kranbau Eberswalde. This was the first time the crane had required a replacement slew bearing.

The work was a complex process requiring precision and heavy lifting. Wilhelm Lohmüller GmbH und Co. KG provided the mobile crane technology to lift the crane’s upper structure, allowing the old bearing to be removed and the new unit installed.

Ultra-Brag AG operates transhipment and storage facilities, as well as two inland vessels. Its facility in Basel handles a range of logistics services, including bulk goods such as food, animal feed, and steel. It also manages container handling, storage, and transport operations.

Ultra-Brag is the only transport company in the port with crane capacities with a load capacity of up to 600 tons, according to the Port of Switzerland.

Ardelt Kranbau GmbH emerged from the restructuring of Kocks Ardelt Kranbau GmbH, following insolvency proceedings that commenced in April 2022. In February 2023, Uwe Grünhagen, former General Manager of Kocks Ardelt Kranbau GmbH, acquired Ardelt Kranbau GmbH through a share deal. Based in Eberswalde near Berlin, Ardelt Kranbau now focuses on producing and servicing cranes.
