ICTSI unveils plans to build new 2MTEU container terminal in Bauan.

Manila-based International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has announced plans to invest US$800 million in constructing a new international container terminal in Bauan, Batangas, Philippines.

Scheduled to commence construction in 2025, the terminal will span 900 meters of quay and accommodate a minimum of 8 ship-to-shore gantry cranes. It is projected to have a capacity to handle over 2 million TEU per annum.

ICTSI said the new terminal would be the largest privately-funded marine terminal investment in the country’s history and the second-largest container facility after the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) in the Port of Manila.

The first berth of the terminal is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2027.

The terminal is expected to become ‘a catalyst for economic growth across Southern Luzon’, according to ICTSI, contributing also to the country’s renewable energy transition strategy for Southern Luzon.

Furthermore, the terminal stands to gain direct access to Southern Luzon’s expressways, ensuring efficient transportation of goods. This is facilitated by the completion of the Bauan-San Pascual-Batangas-STAR tollway diversion road and the ongoing expressway projects from Cavite to Bauan.

“The new terminal represents a significant leap forward for Southern Luzon. We are building a world-class facility that will unlock a wave of economic benefits for the region and the country.  It will create new employment opportunities, improve the quality of life for our host communities and the industries located around the terminal, and solidify Southern Luzon’s position as a key player in global trade,” Christian R. Gonzalez, ICTSI executive vice president, said.

Strategically located 120 kilometres south of Manila and nine kilometres west of Batangas City, the Bauan facility will become the premier international gateway for shippers based in the CALABARZON region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), which is an agro-industrial hub.

ICTSI, through a subsidiary, Bauan International Port Inc., already operates a roll-on/roll-off and project cargo terminal in the region. The terminal supports cargo movements in and out of the Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon area.
