Konecranes launches redesigned straddles, and “heavier” E-VER

Standard

Konecranes launches cover innovations in straddle carriers, lift trucks, integrated automated solutions and its port services portfolio.

At the first day of the TOC Europe in Rotterdam Konecranes announced a number of Port Solutions portfolio launches – redesigned straddle carriers, a new version of its E-VER electric forklift, and improved Remote Support.

Redesigned straddle carriers

Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers have been redesigned around three power options – hybrid, battery and hydrogen – and are now available with power modularity that is easily interchangeable.

The redesigned straddle carrier is available in the standard models lifting 1-over-1, 1-over-2 or 1-over-3, with a maximum lifting capacity of 60 tons.

New features include a host of technical improvements to key parts of the machine, including the brakes, the steering system and the driver’s cabin.

The new straddle carrier’s biggest feature is its modular design, which uses less energy and places the power pack in special housing for easy swapping and retrofitting.

The hybrid option uses a downsized onboard diesel genset to minimise emissions while charging batteries that power the machine. The full battery option uses compact, high-capacity batteries that are charged via a charging station on the terminal. Both options also use regenerative energy recovered from hoisting to provide some charge during operations, while a fully integrated battery management system (BMS) maximises battery life.

The hydrogen option uses liquid hydrogen fuel cells and will be available in the near future, with the first deliveries possible beginning in the first part of 2025.

E-VER 18-25 tons

Konecranes has also introduced a heavy-duty version of its E-VER electric forklift for lifting capacities of 18-25 tons, as a part of the company’s plan to electrify its entire lift truck fleet by the end of 2026.

An increase in capacity to 18-25 tons gives the E-VER wider versatility in heavy industries such as steel, mining and ports.

The truck is equipped with a battery management system (BMS) that monitors battery condition, a thermal management system (TMS) that controls the battery temperature, and a protective frame around the battery to prevent physical damage in the event of a collision.

Remote Support

Konecranes has renewed its Remote Support services for ports and terminals, which reduces the need for technicians to travel to site locations or wait on other resources.

Remote Support gives customers instant access to Konecranes experts through a dedicated hotline phone number, the Konecranes Support online platform and video calling for troubleshooting.
