With a draft of 17.0m, the MSC Lorenza has become the deepest vessel to arrive at the Port of Felixstowe.

Last week, the 16,600 TEU vessel arrived at Felixstowe on its maiden call from Tanjung Pelapas in Malaysia, delivering almost 5,000 import containers for UK customers.

The port, operated by Hutchison Ports UK, in conjunction with Harwich Haven Authority, completed a dredging programme to increase the depth of its four deepest berths and the main approach channel to the port in 2023.

The depth at Berths 8 and 9 was increased to 18.0 metres and at Berths 6 and 7 to 16.5 metres. The channel was deepened from 14.5 metres to 16.0 metres at chart datum allowing Felixstowe to offer access to the world’s largest container ship.
