Aidrivers will retrofit its AI-enabled autonomous technology to an automated STS crane at Pasir Panjang in Singapore.
Autonomous mobility specialist Aidrivers has announced an important second contract with PSA in Singapore to retrofit its autonomous technology to an STS crane. This follows an earlier contract in 2022 where Aidrivers deployed its autonomous technology for a 3D Chassis Alignment System and real-time 3D ship profiling.
Aidrivers is best-known for its autonomous driving system for terminal tractors, but it can also support STS and other crane automation. For PSA the crane at Pasir Panjang will be fitted with “autonomous” technology but it will operate as an “automated crane”. WorldCargo News understands this to mean the crane will operate within pre-defined parameters, as opposed to an “autonomous” crane that is designed to learn and make decisions independently of an exception process, for example.
There is a belief in the industry that adding autonomous technology to “automated” STS cranes and other equipment can help make existing automation systems more flexible, scalable and able to solve problems in a more human-like manner. There is also interest in the industry in using the sensors and other technology in autonomous systems to retrofit STS cranes for automation.
In a statement Aidrivers said the successful deployment of its AI enabled autonomous systems for automated STS quay crane operation at Pasir Panjang in 2022 set new standards in productivity and safety. This new award “underscores PSA and Aidrivers’ dedication to innovation and operational excellence. The integration of AI enabled autonomous solutions marks a significant advancement in port operations, ensuring PSA’s leadership in the industry,” Aidrivers added.
Dr. Rafiq Swash, Founder and CEO of Aidrivers said, “We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with PSA and bring the next generation of AI enabled autonomous solution to their automated quay cranes. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to pioneering innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, safety, and reliability in port operations,”.
