Colón Container Terminal (CCT) has bolstered its operations with the arrival of 12 new hybrid RTG cranes from ZPMC.
Colón Container Terminal (CCT) in Panama has taken delivery of 12 new hybrid RTG cranes, an investment worth US$23 million.
The RTGs were manufactured and delivered by China’s crane powerhouse ZPMC. The RTGs have a lifting capacity of 40t, span 6+1 rows wide and stack height of one-over-five.
ZPMC’s vessel, Zhen Hua 24, departed from Shanghai on June 16, 2024, and arrived in Panama after a two-month journey.
The company said that the equipment upgrade is expected to reduce turnaround times and operational costs at the terminal, thereby increasing CCT’s overall capacity and competitiveness.
CCT President William Elliott said, “The delivery of these hybrid RTGs, manufactured by ZPMC, demonstrates our strong commitment to the sustainability and modernisation of our operations. This investment optimises our operational capacity and reaffirms our commitment to the environment and the country’s economic growth.”
The delivery ceremony took place on August 19 at the port facilities in the province of Colón.
Colón Container Terminal, S.A. began operations in 1997 on the site of a former U.S. Navy base, transforming the area into a modern container handling facility. Initially equipped with two berths, the terminal has since expanded to include four berths, covering a total area of 74.3 hectares. The terminal is equipped with 11 STS cranes and an extensive yard equipment lineup, including 30 RTGs, 4 ARMGs, 5 reach stackers, 11 side handlers, and 93 yard tractors.
