ICTSI’s VCT welcomes new MHCs
NewsNew ESP.5 Gottwald MHCs from Konecranes have arrived at Visayas Container Terminal, boosting the facility’s operational capacity.
ICTSI’s TecPlata terminal has dredged its marine channels to a depth of 10 metres, with plans to deepen them further to 14 metres.
TecPlata, the container terminal operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in La Plata, adjacent to the bustling port of Buenos Aires in Argentina, has completed dredging of its marine channels to a depth of 10 metres.
“The development gives TecPlata an advantage over the terminals in the city of Buenos Aires, where the channels are limited to 10 meters,” said Juan Pablo Trujillo, TecPlata chief executive officer. “Our next objective is to deepen the access channel to a depth of 14 metres, similar to the design of the container terminal, to bring Argentina on par or better than other ports in the region. This will then provide TecPlata with a unique advantage over the rest of the ports in the Buenos Aires area.”
Earlier this month ICTSI said that TecPlata became the first port in Argentina to achieve carbon-neutral certification and the fifth within the ICTSI Group. TecPlata has achieved carbon neutrality through a carbon offsetting program that includes acquiring certified carbon credits. The carbon credits, certified by Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, are linked to the Manantiales Behr Wind Farm project in Argentina.
Since its inception in October 2008, TecPlata S.A. has been under a 30-year concession granted by the Consorcio de Gestion del Puerto La Plata to develop and manage an all-purpose port terminal in the greater Buenos Aires area. With an investment of approximately US$450 million, TecPlata is initially designed with a capacity to handle 450,000 TEU. Future expansions could potentially increase this capacity to up to 1 million TEU in a second phase.
