King Abdul Aziz Port reports growth in container throughput in the first half of 2024.

King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam reported a 37.4% increase in container throughput for the first half of 2024, handling 1,534,961 TEU compared to 1,117,133 TEU last year.

According to the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), the port saw a surge in transshipments, with an 87.87% year-on-year increase, totalling 37,806 TEU.

Exports rose by 39.07% to 624,710 TEU, while imports grew by 34.68% to 872,445 TEU. Total cargo tonnage climbed by 37.06%, reaching 15,565,138 tons. General cargo saw a 49.47% increase, totalling 2,580,974 tons, and bulk solid cargo grew by 2.63%, reaching 5,986,089 tons.

Maritime activity also improved, with ship visits up by 19.97% to 1,430. Car imports rose by 109.82%, totalling 363,167 vehicles, though passenger numbers fell by 89.11% to 4,194.

The figures come as the port welcomes significant equipment deliveries. In 2024, King Abdul Aziz Port enhanced its facilities with three new STS and 18 RTG cranes and 80 electric trucks, becoming the largest port in the Middle East with such a fleet.
