Four STS cranes loaded on board Zhen Hua 36 heavy lift vessel have set sail for the Port of Gdansk, Poland with expected delivery at the end of October. The cranes, manufactured by China’s ZPMC, are intended for Baltic Hub’s new T3 terminal, set for completion by the end of 2025. The cranes have a 73m outreach and lifting capacity of up to 65 t.

“This is a landmark moment for the third quay project, which brings us closer to the opening of the new part of the terminal and the increase of handling capacity at Baltic Hub,” Baltic Hub said on social media.

Poland’s largest container terminal, operated by PSA International, launched the construction of the third deep-water quay in October 2022, with a consortium of Budimex and DEME as the contractors. The 717m-long, 17.5m-deep quay will feature seven STS cranes and 20 semi-automatic yard cranes. These are being provided by Kuenz, with ABB supplying the drives and automation. The double cantilever automated rail mounted gantry cranes, referred to by the Baltic Hub as C-ARMGs, span 8.5m-32m-8.5m, have a SWL of 41t and a lifting height of 1-over-6.

Baltic Hub revealed in an August construction update that Project T3 is over 60% complete. At the end of June, the first stage of construction was finished, involving the handover of approximately 150 metres of container storage yards and related infrastructure, which enabled the next phase of the project to begin, including the delivery and assembly of eight C-ARMGs. By the end of July, delivery of the first C-ARMG crane elements had started, with assembly launching in early August, followed by commissioning and testing. Rail infrastructure for the STS cranes is being finalised along with mooring and fender equipment, and foundation layers for the pavement. The update added that work is progressing on reinforced concrete, stormwater drainage, and reefer racks.
