Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Sri Lanka has received five RMGs from ZPMC.
Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Colombi, Sri Lanka, has taken delivery of five automated cantilever rail-mounted gantry cranes (RMGs).
The double cantilever RMGs, manufactured and delivered by ZPMC, have a lifting capacity of 41 tonnes under spreader, a lifting height of 21 meters, a span of 36.5 meters and a loading profile of 6+1 wide. As WorldCargo News understands, the terminal has a total of 18 RMGs on order at ZPMC, and this is the first batch from the series.
“The first batch of 5 state-of-the-art automated CRMG cranes have arrived, marking a new era of productivity and growth for the Port of Colombo. This milestone propels our commitment to positioning Colombo as a leading maritime hub in South Asia. We extend our gratitude to our JV partners, and dedicated teams who have worked tirelessly to make achievement possible,” CWIT said.
CWIT, established by Adani Ports & SEZ (51%), John Keells Holdings (34%), and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (15%), is developing the West Container Terminal under a 35-year BOT concession signed in 2021. The terminal, expected to open by the end of 2025, will be capable of handling the largest containerships and at least 3.2 million TEU annually.
The terminal will feature 1,400 metres of vessel berths capable of accommodating vessels ranging from 500 to 24,000 TEU. The project will also include a 64.1-hectare container stack yard equipped with cantilever RMGs parallel to the quay length, along with additional infrastructure such entry/exit gate complexes, customs facilities, substations with diesel backup generators, port operation and robotic container management system (RCMS) towers.
