India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) handled a record-breaking 639,336 TEU in August 2024, surpassing its previous high of 603,217 TEU in July 2024.

The port attributed the increase to a 19.22% growth in export traffic compared to August 2023. Among the terminals, Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT) and APM Terminals Mumbai both hit all-time highs, processing 202,071 TEU and 192,137 TEU, respectively.

In August 2024, JNPA also managed 7.89 million tonnes of total cargo, reflecting a 7.62% rise from the same period last year. The port handled 593 container rakes (trains of flat wagons designed to transport shipping containers by rail) moving 94,466 TEU, an improvement from 550 rakes and 89,694 TEU in August 2023.

For the fiscal year 2024-2025 so far, JNPA has processed 2.93 million TEU and 37.42 million tonnes of cargo, marking increases of 12.73% and 6.20% compared to the previous year. Container rake operations also saw a boost, with 2,657 rakes and 422,465 TEU handled from April to August 2024.
