Fluent Cargo is an Australian-based company established to provide services including multi-modal container tracking. It markets itself as the “Google Maps for Freight”. Fluent Cargo has now partnerd with CARGOES by DP World, which provides a suite of enterprise services including cargo tracking.

Under the agreement Fluent Cargo will provide its central shipment tracking platform for DP World CARGOES expansive carrier network. The Fluent Cargo portal will be available to more than 70 ocean carriers, more than 80 air carriers and more than 1100 parcel trucks or couriers in the DP World CARGOES network, the companies said in a statement.

“Fluent Cargo will build on its track record of data accuracy and cargo network connectivity to easily provide tracking by shipment for air and ocean by consumption with no lock in contracts. Fluent Cargo’s tracking portal removes segmented data, manual, tedious and costly process which are prone to errors and prevents serious problems from occurring by identifying pain points and addressing them directly. Real time tracking information uses carrier integrations, milestones and shipment progression, saving costs by centralising data agnostic of the carrier, service provider, mode or region” the companies stated.

Archival Garcia, Fluent Cargo CEO

The “Google Maps of freight” is a bold claim for a company to make. In response to WorldCargo News questions Archival Garcia, Fluent Cargo CEO said Fluent Cargo, provides shippers with key milestones throughout a container’s journey. The following critical events are tracked:

  • Empty Container Gate Out
  • Full Container Gate In
  • Load On Vessel
  • Vessel Departure
  • Vessel Arrival
  • Discharge from Vessel
  • Full Container Mount to Truck
  • Final Destination Arrival

For Fluent Cargo and any other container tracking platform a key challenge is how to get visibility into the processes within marine container terminals, inland terminals, rail operations and other facilities that have custody of containers for days at a time. Shippers want to know whether a container is sitting in the yard or has been moved to a rail head within the terminal, for example.

Garcia said Fluent Cargo currently does not offer tracking for intraport movements. “However, we’re aware of the high demand for this feature and are actively exploring where it fits into our product roadmap,” he added.

Pradeep Desai, Group Chief Technology Officer at DP World said 10% of world trade currently moves through its network, and DP World is committed to offering bespoke solutions. “We’re excited to partner with Fluent Cargo to strengthen their tracking capability, providing customers with the most up to date and relevant information on shipments via ocean or air,” he said.

For Fluent Cargo the partnership enables it to extend its global reach. “We are thrilled to be partnering with an industry leading organisation to reach as many customers as possible to more conveniently and efficiently access up-to-date information on the location and progress of their cargo easily without cumbersome lock in contracts.  In the ever changing cargo logistics ecosystem, we want to provide simplicity and flexibility,” Garcia concluded.
