Malta Freeport Terminals (MFT), one of two Yilport Holdings’ Mediterranean terminals, has received two new empty handlers from Hyster. The units are fitted with safety cages, an Advanced Stability Management System (VSM), and an ABS braking system to improve operational safety.

The new handlers also incorporate low-emission technology and energy recovery systems, which help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, aligning with the terminal’s sustainability goals.

The delivery comes as the terminal’s onshore power supply (OPS) project advances. The OPS project has seen the completion of trenching, pipe laying, and concrete infill works between the Distribution Centre and the Main Gate. The next phase involves designing the frequency converter station and developing detailed electrical designs for the North Quay of Terminal One. Upcoming work will include constructing the frequency converter station and installing the necessary electrical equipment, according to Yilport.

Most recently, Yilports’s Puerto Bolívar in Ecuador has enhanced its channel depths to 14.5 meters, with plans to reach 16.5 meters in 2025. Additionally, the terminal has inaugurated Berth 6 and a new container yard, expanding its infrastructure to support increased cargo demands.
