The Port of Aarhus has agreed to lease land to MSC, allowing the company to establish a new container terminal at the port. Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), MSC Group’s container terminal operator, will move into the Omniterminal, which is currently nearing completion.

The agreement between the Port of Aarhus and MSC will enable TiL to lease approximately 170,000 square metres in the Omniterminal, where it will establish and operate its container terminal. The terminal is expected to be fully developed by 2027, at which point MSC Group and TiL will begin using the facility.

With this agreement, Denmark’s two largest container terminals will be located at the Port of Aarhus.

“We are pleased that MSC Group and TiL regard the Port of Aarhus as an attractive location and are now choosing to invest in establishing a container terminal. This will provide businesses with greater opportunities to trade globally, strengthen our competitiveness, and reinforce our role in ensuring Danish supply, to the benefit of businesses and Denmark,” says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Port of Aarhus.

“The Port of Aarhus offers an ideal location for the future network plans we have developed. We will be introducing a direct mainliner between Asia and Aarhus next year, and in combination with our own terminal, we can offer our customers an efficient logistics solution. In the longer term, we are exploring additional routes that could positively impact Danish business, and we will consider further investment when new areas are developed at the Port of Aarhus,” says Søren Toft, CEO of MSC.

MSC’s Danish headquarters are already located in the Aarhus port area.
