Transnet appoints Preferred Bidder for Richards Bay container terminal
NewsTransnet National Ports Authority has chosen Grindrod SA to develop and operate a container facility at the Port of Richards Bay, increasing capacity to 200,000 TEU.
The newly completed Container Terminal Vinnytsia features a rail link to Gdańsk and can handle up to 30,000 TEU annually.
The initial phase of constructing a new container terminal in the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia has been completed. The terminal, named Container Terminal Vinnytsia (CTV), already features a rail link to the Polish port of Gdańsk. The investment in the project is estimated at around US$15m.
Operated by Lemtras Group, the terminal includes a container yard with a capacity of up to 2,000 TEU and a 3,500 sqm warehouse. Spanning 8 ha, CTV has an annual throughput capacity of 30,000 TEU.
“We are creating new opportunities, as the emergence of such a terminal in the region opens up access to global logistics for cargo owners, both large and small. This means that exporters and importers no longer depend on the size of the shipment or the influence of global trading companies,” says CTV CEO Dmytro Balaba. “The opening of the Container Terminal Vinnytsia is an important step for the further economic development of the region.”
Earlier in the week, the terminal received its first train from Poland, carrying over 60 TEU as part of a regular service to Gdańsk. There is already an option to send containers to Odesa, with potential future connections to Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, and the Netherlands being considered.
