Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) inaugurates a new 253-metre container terminal.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN MANET inaugurated a new 253-metre container terminal at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS), Cambodia’s sole international deep seaport, on Thursday.
The US$37.5 million terminal, completed after 17 months of construction, has an annual handling capacity of 450,000 TEU, raising the port’s total capacity to 1 million TEU per year. In August 2024, the port received two STS cranes and six RTGs, supplied by Japan’s MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd., which were shipped from the Oita factory in Japan for use at the new terminal. The STS units have a SWL of 30.5 t, outreach of 36m, back reach of 12m and a rail span of 20m. The diesel-powered RTGs feature a SWL of 41t, lifting height of 1-0ver-5 and a span of 23.47m.

The terminal can accommodate vessels with drafts up to 10.4 meters, significantly increasing the port’s capacity to handle global and regional container ships. Docking rates have risen from 18% to 38% for international vessels and 49.25% for ships on Asia-Pacific routes, the port’s data shows.
This expansion aligns with Cambodia’s growing trade, as the port handled 5.7 million tons of containerised cargo in the first seven months of 2024, marking a 26.5% year-on-year increase.
For the six-month period ending June 30, 2024, total revenue reached KHR 211.88 billion (US$ 52.5 million), marking a 24.86% increase (KHR 42.19 billion) compared to the same period in 2023. However, net profit decreased by 25.90% (KHR 24.85 billion) year-on-year, amounting to KHR 71.09 billion.
