Irish South Coast Logistics has secured approval for the Inland Port Terminal in Dublin, offering storage and various tank container services.
South Coast Logistics has announced it has secured planning permission for the Inland Port Terminal at Ballycoolin, Dublin. The permission was granted by the Fingal County Council in Dublin.
The facility will offer a range of services, including storage for over 220 laden and empty TEUs, as well as tank container lifting, washing, heating, repair, maintenance, and logistical support, all within a single, integrated and regulated site.
According to South Coast Logistics, the tank container terminal is the first of its kind in Ireland and will operate as an Upper Tier Seveso site, regulated by the Health & Safety Authority (HSA).
An Upper Tier Seveso site is an industrial facility regulated under the EU’s Seveso Directive due to its handling of large quantities of hazardous substances. These sites are required to implement strict safety protocols, including detailed risk assessments, emergency response plans, and regular reporting, to prevent major chemical accidents and minimise their potential impact on public health and the environment. The Seveso Directive was originally introduced after a serious industrial accident in Seveso, Italy in 1976, which resulted in the release of a toxic cloud of dioxin.
Richie O Flynn LLB, Commercial Director, South Coast Logistics, commented: “Given Ireland’s status as an island nation, we face unique challenges such as reliance on shipping schedules, weather disruptions, and customs complexities. The new Inland Port Terminal allows our customers, including tank container operators and multinational companies, to adopt a proactive approach to stock management, ensuring consistent production and business continuity. This development solidifies South Coast’s role as the leading versatile and dedicated multi-faceted service provider in Ireland.”
