Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), a fully automated container handling facility in the Port of Melbourne, Australia, managed by International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), has reached the 5m TEU mark since commencing operations.

“Since opening our doors at Webb Dock in 2017, VICT has been dedicated to continuous improvement, investing heavily in innovative technology, the highest safety and sustainability standards, and the well-being of our valued staff,” said Bruno Porchietto, VICT chief executive officer.

“Reaching five million TEU is a testament to this unwavering commitment and a significant accomplishment for the entire VICT team. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff for their dedication and hard work.”

The milestone is being reported following the recent completion of the terminal expansion, which has increased VICT’s capacity by 30% to 1.25m TEU. The expansion has allowed the terminal to handle larger vessels and cater to the growing demand. Key upgrades include a 71m quay extension, facilitating the berthing of two 366m vessels simultaneously. As part of the investment, VICT has also acquired two automated STS cranes, six automated straddle carriers, and further ASCs.

The expansion is set to be followed by Phase 3B, scheduled to be completed in 2026. The next development stage will include the acquisition of another automated STS crane, three automated straddle carriers and two additional yard blocks with four ASCs.
