DP World has received four new RTGs at its container terminal in the Port of Djazair, Algeria. Arriving on Spliethoff’s general cargo vessel, Pauwgracht, the RTGs were supplied by Konecranes and feature a SWL of 40.6t.
With this addition, the terminal now operates a total of nine RTGs.
As part of this upgrade, DP World will provide training for 21 Reach Stacker (RS) operators transitioning to RTG operators. DP World said that eight experienced trainers will conduct evaluations and simulation exercises to prepare the trainees for their new roles.
According to DP World, its container terminal in Djazair is the first in Algeria to achieve a 27% market share. DP World has invested US$ 114 million in technology and optimised container handling at the terminal, and in 2021, the terminal’s annual throughput was increased from 250,000 to 755,600 TEU.
