Arkas and IRISL to co-operate

Izmir (Türkiye)-based Arkas, the diversified shipping, logistics and ports group, has joined compatriot liner shipping company Turkon, and Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd on their service linking the eastern Mediterranean with ports on the Atlantic seaboard of North America.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) has a plan to become a leading player in the container shipping industry and will buy and charter ships and lease containers to secure this goal.

The state-controlled Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) has confirmed orders with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the construction of several 14,500 TEU container ships and 49,000 dwt product/chemical carriers. IRISL has not confirmed the exact number of vessels it has ordered, and it has been reported as both four and eight container carriers by different media outlets.
