The decision follows the bankruptcy of Croatia’s largest shipyard, the Uljanik yard in Pula
CLdN RoRo SA (Cobelfret) originally placed an order for two 5,500 lane metre ro-ro freighters with Uljanik in 2016 and they were due for delivery last year. There were also options for four additional vessels. Length overall was 211m, with a breadth of 32m and a service speed of 17 knots.
The yard has been struggling for some time and the workers have been on strike for many months. CLdN RoRo cancelled the order for the first ship in January, but kept the other one on the books while the Croatian government looked for a recapitalisation partner.
However, these efforts failed and the yard has been declared bankrupt. A similar fate is expected for an affiliated yard, 3 Maj.
