State-owned Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has announced that Phase 1 of the planned new port of Keta will cost US$600M to develop and has called for private-sector partners to help build it. Feasibility studies have been completed and a social and environmental impact assessment will be undertaken early next year.
The opening of a fourth berth and the commissioning of new cranes at Tema Container Terminal at Ghana’s Port of Tema has increased its capacity to 3.7M TEU a year, the highest of any West African port, and taken Meridian Port Services’ (MPS) investment in the project to US$1B since 2007. The first phase was built between 2016 and 2019.
Construction work on a new ICD at Boankra in Ghana has begun. Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT) will be one of the biggest inland container terminals anywhere on the continent between North Africa and South Africa.

A 25-year concession to operate the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Takoradi has been awarded to Ibistek, which is entirely owned by Ghanaian investors.
