ICTSI Iraq logs record performance

Basra Gateway Terminal in the Port of Umm Qasr recently handled its three millionth TEU, after seven years of operation

ICTSI has opened a new ro-ro facility at Berth 21 at its Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) in the Port of Umm Qasr, Iraq, as part of its Phase 2
expansion at the terminal. Quay and yard areas have been configured for handling oil and gas project cargoes.

ICTSI has signed the deal for the next development phase of Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) at North Port in Umm Qasr, Iraq. Two new berths (Nos. 25 and 26) will be created, backed by a 20-ha yard area, to double capacity to 1.2M TEU/year. On completion, the contiguous quay will be 600m, with a 50-ha CY. The new berths and cranes will be able to cater for Neo-Panamax tonnage.

Trade with Iraq is increasing despite significant political and economic uncertainties, and the opening of a new container terminal suggests brighter times might lie ahead.
