Log-In Logistica, the Brazilian-based coastal shipping group, has won Loginno’s Contopia Factor competition.
The carrier will now have its fleet of owned and leased containers fitted with the Israeli company’s 5th generation AGAM devices. It will result in Log-In becoming the first shipping line in the world to operate a full pool of smart containers.
In announcing the winner at the Nor Shipping event in Oslo, Shachar Tal, a co-founder of Loginno, said: “Log-In’s winning factors were its readiness to handle the strategic and complex Contopia project, its openness and honesty throughout the selection process, and the quality, passion, and dedication of the executive team.
“They showed commitment as well as brilliance as we formed together the winning plan…. and all this, together with a well-suited operation, which we think could demonstrate very clearly the values of Contopia, and achieve a fantastic return on the investment, something that it is critical for us to prove.”
The competition, which was open to small- and medium-sized shipping lines controlling (owning/leasing) up to 150,000 containers, attracted seventeen carriers. They were asked to submit executive summaries on what they would do if Loginno’s patented AGAM devices were installed on their boxes, effectively digitalising their inventory.
The exact size of Log-In’s container fleet is not known. The company operates seven box ships in Brazil’s cabotage trades and have a combined capacity of 15,300 TEU, and has inland operations as well.
Log-In is also a good fit with regard to using data from Contopia across planning applications. To this end it is important to note that Navis is cooperating with Loginno on Contopia, and Log-In has already signed up to use XVELA, the cloud based platform for stowage planning, which came out of Navis.
There is enormous potential to use container level data in the stowage planing process, as well as in terminal processes like yard planning and gate management. In particular bringing together Contopia, Navis and XVELA unlocks the potential for real time supply chain planning, the benefits of which Loginno expects to become apparent once Log-In has a fully container connected fleet.
