New Dunkirk-Ireland lo-lo service

BG Freight Line has started a new weekly service linking Dunkirk with Cork and Dublin

New Dunkirk-Ireland lo-lo service

Three 1,000 TEU ships are deployed in the new service, which calls Dunkirk on Tuesdays, Dublin on Thursdays and Cork on Saturdays.

 

The service meets a growing demand for non-road based distribution between Ireland and the Continent (which largely still transits Great Britain) and using 45ft palletwide, HC containers that offer the same cube as trailers, with more security and less change of criminal engagement in Ireland-Continent supply chains.

 

There was no specific reference to Brexit in the Port of Dunkirk’s press release, but this is a factor in Irish shipper and 3PL thinking, albeit the main factor driving the "maritime and ’last mile road’ model is driver shortages.

 

BG Freight Line has operated over Dunkirk for the past 10 years.
