New straddle carriers for APM Terminals Barcelona

New straddle carriers for APM Terminals Barcelona

The new machines from Konecranes Noell have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes, stack 1 over 3 and have twin 20 spreaders. The PLC system includes a Creon-S safety controller and the machines are fully-prepared for automation.

The equipment was manufactured and tested in Germany and then shipped in pieces, for local assembly and commissioning.

The investment is part of APMT’s modernisation and expansion plan to increase capacity and productivity. Earlier this year two STS cranes formerly deployed by APMT at Pier 400, Los Angeles arrived at the terminal, following an overhaul by ZPMC in China.

The new straddle carriers are the biggest investment made in the terminal since APMT acquired TCB, and also the biggest investment in straddle carriers in the terminal’s history.

The first machines are now operational and all will be in service by September.
