Containerships has taken delivery of its second container ship powered by LNG, CONTAINERSHIPS POLAR
CONTAINERSHIPS POLAR will be phased into the redesigned BALT 2 service, starting from Rotterdam. At the beginning of May, the 1,380 TEU vessel (with 380 plugs for reefers) and catering for palletwide 40ft and 45ft containers, started its voyage from Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in China to Northern Europe, where it will operate alongside its sister ship CONTAINERSHIPS NORD.
At the end of June, the vessel’s first LNG bunkering will be carried out in Rotterdam where it will fuel an approximate of 200 tonnes of LNG via ship-to-ship bunkering.
The redesigned weekly BALT 2 links Northern Europe with the Baltic states and Russia. Seven ports are served in a loop service - Teesport, Zeebrugge, Rotterdam, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Riga, Gdynia and Teesport againwith Rotterdam serving as transshipment hub and bunkering station.
Two more LNG-powered ships, CONTAINERSHIPS ARCTIC and CONTAINERSHIPS AURORA, will join the fleet from the Chinese yard before the end of this year.
