Liebherr Container Cranes has recently handed over four STS container cranes to two customers on the US East Coast
Port Newark Container Terminal, New Jersey (PNCT) took delivery of two 69m outreach, 66t SWL megamax cranes, whilst Penn Terminals in Eddystone, Pennsylvania has two new Liebherr 48m outreach, 66t SWL STS cranes.
In total, four STS cranes were ordered by PNCT as part of a terminal improvement and expansion plan that will see the terminal grow to 309 acres and significantly increase container throughput capacity.
The cranes are fitted with semi automation, electronic anti-sway and a straddle carrier positioning system allowing for increased productivity.
Laser anti-collision systems are installed. OCR is integrated with the checker’s cabin to ensure accurate container tracking. Remote access and diagnostics optimise crane maintenance.
Penn Terminals’ new STS cranes feature semi-automated trolley and hoist
operation, with manual operation only required when operating below the pre-configured safe height. Anti-collision systems and remote diagnostics are also included.
Liebherr Container Cranes have a long association with the USA, going back to 1969. On handover of the final two cranes at PNCT in the coming months, Liebherr will have delivered 20 STS container cranes in the New York/New Jersey area since 2001, of which 14 delivered since 2012.
