The new hybrid straddle carriers are part of a fleet renewal programme aimed at improving the Med Europe Terminal’s environmental performance.

Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) has concluded seven-year agreements with equipment manufacturers, including Kalmar, Liebherr, Konecranes and ZPMC, that will ensure spare parts for its various pieces of cargo handling equipment, most notably the STS cranes, RTGs and straddle carriers, are supplied.

Kalmar has concluded an agreement with Générale de Manutention Portuaire (GMP) in Le Havre to supply the company with four more hybrid straddle carriers.

Circular economy initiatives to reduce input of virgin raw materials and new formulations to lengthen tread life are both on the agenda.

Kalmar is to supply Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals (RST) with six hybrid straddle carriers. The order was booked in Cargotec’s Q3 2023 order intake and the machines are scheduled to be delivered during Q2 2024.
