Ken Russell takes the chair at RFG; Erck Rickmers moves into real estate; Tom Eckelmann takes charge at Eurogate CTH Hamburg; Karri Ossa is the new COO at Euroports Rauma; Advent Intermodal appoints Dennis Monts as EVP, Commercial; Kierstin Lachtman takes over as head of of Liberian Shipowners’ Council
The Board of the UK Rail Freight Group (RFG) has announced that Ken Russell has been elected as its new Chair in succession to Tony Berkeley, who formally retired at the Group’s AGM in Sunderland on 7 November. Lord Berkeley will continue to work for RFG as European Advisor until the middle of 2019. Neil Sime, Managing Director of Victa Railfreight, has also been elected to the new role of Vice-Chair. He has been on the board since 2003.
Under a new process agreed by the RFG Board, Russell and Sime will serve as Chair and Vice-Chair for a 12-month period. The election for these positions will take place each year, with all qualifying Board Directors eligible to stand. Chris Swan, Head of Rail for Tarmac, has become a Director of the Board, being appointed at the AGM. Maggie Simpson, currently Executive Director of RFG, has been appointed to the role of Director General, and will continue to lead the RFG in its work.
As of January 1st 2019 Tom Eckelmann, son of the owner Thomas Eckelmann, will take over from Wolfgang Schiemann as Managing Director of Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg. Schiemann will in future act as senior advisor for group management at Eurogate. Tom Eckelmann has held a number of senior positions within the Group during the past six years and is a member of the Board of Eurokai affiliate Contship Italia SpA.
Euroports Rauma Oy in Finland has appointed Karri Osara as its new COO with effect from 15th November. He joins from Boliden Harjavalta, as did Europort Rauma’s Managing Director Timo Lehtinen in August last year.
Buss Terminal Eemshaven BV, formerly known as Orange Blue Terminal BV, has appointed Reindert Jan Visser as an additional Managing Director, with responsibility for operational management, while Martin van den Heuvel will look after the commercial and business development side of the business. Buss Terminal Eemshaven BV is jointly owned by Buss Hamburg and Broekman Logistics Group, Rotterdam.
Murray Hill, NJ, USA: Advent Intermodal Solutions, LLC has appointed Dennis Monts as Executive Vice President – Commercial Operations. Formerly with the Intermodal Association of North America, latterly responsible for Information Services covering regulatory compliance, equipment interchange, terminal gate data processing, safety and risk management solutions, Monts brings over 30 years of experience across the intermodal, trucking, third party logistics, warehousing and employment service sectors, including posts with Matson Logistics, Randstad Holding, General Motors Corporation and ATA American Trucking Associations.
Erck Rickmers is to take over the running of E R Capital Holding GmbH & Cie KG from Jochen Klösges, with effect from 15th April 2019. The company will in future focus on real estate and withdraw from the shipping industry. In a related move, Nicholas Teller, a former CEO of Erck Rickmers group, will take a 25% stake in Nordkapital. The then Zeaborn (now part of Zeamarine) acquired Reederei E R Schiffahrt earlier this year.
Ted Söderholm, presently CEO of DHL Express Sweden, has been appointed CEO of Swedish rail freight company Green Cargo AB.
Kierstin M Lachtman is to take over as General Secretary of the Liberian Shipowners’ Council Ltd (LSC) in February 2019 from Joseph Ludwiczak, who is retiring after 17 years at the helm. Lachtman, who will operate from the LSC offices in Dulles, Virginia, is currently Manager, Maritime Policy for Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) in Washington DC.
Geodis has appointed Antje Lochmann as the new Managing Director of Geodis Freight Forwarding Germany. She will be based in Hamburg and succeeds Matthias Hansen, who was recently appointed Global Product Head of Ocean Freight. He will support Antje Lochmann during a two-month transition period through December 2018.
