Technology upgrade for San Juan Terminal

NASCENT initially installed its SYNAPSE Automated Gate System at San Juan, Puerto Rico for Horizon Lines in 2006. Horizon sold its interest in the terminal to Luis A. Ayala Colón Sucrs., Inc. in 2015.

San Juan port was badly damaged in Hurricane Maria in 2017, but the NASCENT gate kiosks survived. This year Luis Ayala Colon upgraded to the Navis N4 TOS, and as part of that project upgraded the NASCENT system to the latest Navis-ready SYNAPSE Gate Operating System, and enVision Portals.

“NASCENT’s enVision Imaging and OCR Portals will further enhance gate automation at the San Juan port,” NASCENT said in a statement. “enVision can automatically scan and identify cargo, perform Hazard Placard Inspection, and record Tire Damage data”. Together with N4 the new gate system is expected to result in faster turn times and a seamless experience for carriers.

Hernan F. Ayala-Parsi, President, Luis A. Ayala Colón Sucrs., Inc. commented, “The new state-of-the-art gate system seamlessly integrates with the new terminal operating system. It’s just a natural evolution in a history of adopting technologies that work to the benefit of our customers.”
