The truck is a HOWO-T5G with a battery powered drive system manufactured by China National Heavy Duty Truck Group (CNHTC). The autonomous driving system, called the “driving brain” uses an array of sensors including Lidar from Velodyne, high-definition cameras, and GPS using China’s “Beidou” satellite navigation system.

As can be seen in the video below, the vehicle completed tests at a container terminal in Tianjin moving containers between the STS cranes on the quay and an RTG.

The pilot project in Tianjin is a tripartite co-operation between CNHTC, the Tianjin Port Group and the Tianjin Main Line Technology Company.
