There have been press reports in Spain and Denmark that Zeaborn Shipping (incorporating Rickmers Line and E R Schiffart) will be taking over Hamburg-based Hansa Heavy Lift (HHL). With 16 modern heavy lift vessels, HHL has one of the youngest fleets for project cargoes and heavy lifts.

Earlier this month Zeamarine, the 50:50 joint venture of Zeaborn and US-based Intermarine, received regulatory clearance.

Harald Romer, head of communications at Zeaborn Shipping in Bremen, declined to comment on the takeover rumours, although he said "we are constantly involved in looking at ways of consolidating the shipping industry."

The combined Zeamarine fleet is made up of 85 vessels and, when the tie-up was first announced in May, it was stated that the intention was to have a fleet of 100 vessels by the end of 2018.

Meanwhile, Ove Meyer, managing partner of Zeaborn, has said that eventually Zeaborn will take over Maritime Holdings’ remaining 50% stake in Zeamarine.
