Shanghai splits

After handling its first container in February, throughput at Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Phase 4 (WGQ4) is set to hit 1 mill TEU by the end of this year. HPH may have been delayed in its plans to invest in Phase 1 of the Waigoaqiao container terminal, but APM Terminals has no such problem.

Maersk Sealand is reported to be in discussions with the Shanghai Port Authority (SPA) about buying a stake in Phase IV of the Waigaoqiao container terminal. The company is also talking with the Xiamen Port Authority (XPA) with a view to setting up a terminal at the Chinese port closest to Taiwan.

Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) is still holding its breath in its long-term quest to invest in Phase I of Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Container Terminal (SWCT) .
