…but loses out at JNP

French media have reported that the DP World affiliate is pulling out of its contract to run the multipurpose/container terminal in the south west France port

P&O Ports Bosaso CEO Paul Anthony Formosa has been killed and two other port staff injured in an attack by al-Shabaab militants at Bosaso, Somalia.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is investing in two new dry ports, and hopes to open both facilities by mid-2019. The two inland ports are located at Jalna, which is near the city of Aurangabad, and Wardhwa, which is close to the city of Nagpur. Both facilities will have the capacity to handle 20,000 TEU a year.

The container trades between countries in sub-Saharan Africa and the rest of the world have staged a strong recovery this year.

Healthy growth in container traffi c over the last six months and announcements from the government and private sector players have created a bullish outlook for India’s port sector.

The Indian government is to develop Rewas Port on its own, after Reliance Industries Ltd failed to move forward on the project.
