ATI bid spurned in Mindanao

News-in-print

A second bidding for the Mindanao container terminal (Phase 1) is to take place in early 2004 now that the Phividec Industrial Authority (PIA) has rejected Asian Terminal Inc (ATI)’s solus bid to manage and operate the facility. Until a private operator is named, the PIA will handle port operations with the aid of Japanese technical consultants.

It is understood that ATI offered only Pesos12 mill/year. PIA administrator Gabriel Evangelista would not disclose any figures but confirmed that there was a “failure of bid” because ATI’s tender was too low. It is understood that PIA had expected the 20-year concession to fetch at least Pesos70 mill in fixed and variable fees annually.
