Takoradi to undergo major expansion

A major expansion and modernisation programme for the Ghanaian port of Takoradi has been announced. According to the port’s director, Nestor Galley, up to US$250 mill could eventually be invested in the port, although the more concrete plans for the installation of new cargo handling facilities and substantial dredging work is likely to cost around US$70 mill. Some of the port’s nine berths currently have a draft of less than 8m and it is hoped that this can be increased by a further 3m.
