USTR exempts STS crane orders arriving by May, 2026 from 25% tariff
NewsUnder new rules from the US Trade Representative, ship-to-shore cranes ordered before May 14, 2024, and arriving by May 14, 2026, will avoid a 25% tariff on imports from China.
Shippers will have to pay an extra Yuan120 (US$14.50) per laden FEU and Yuan80 (US$9.70) per TEU at Shenzhen’s container terminals from next month. Transhipment boxes will be exempt.
The charges, defined as “port construction fees,” are designed to recoup government expenditure on port-related infrastructure, such as roads, tunnels and bridges.
