Concession for Manta imminent

In Ecuador, the government has been referring to “delegated management” as a possible model for the operation of the deepwater port at Manta for the next 50 years. This was revealed as an alternative to the traditional concession model by Kevin Lazo, director of Manta Port Authority (APM).

Manta port authority (APM) in Ecuador has announced the completion of five out of nine infrastructure projects that the state initiated in October last year, representing an investment of around US$5.5M.

The Brazilian economy has made great strides in recent years, but is being held back by lack of capacity in the ports and inland transport sectors, according to Claudio Loureiro de Souza, director of Centronave (Centro Nacional de Navegação), the national chamber of shipping.

BNamericas reports that Singapore-based port operator Portek has submitted a proposal to the state-owned Manta Port Authority (APM) in Ecuador to become a strategic partner and help develop the port.

A multimodal corridor linking Ecuador and Brazil is expected to be ready by 2011, according to Patricio Padilla, general manager of Ecuador’s Manta port authority (APM).
