OMT welcomes its largest container ship
NewsOMT handled PIL’s 300m, 6,660-TEU Kota Cempaka, the largest container vessel to fully operate in Eastern Nigeria, loading and unloading 2,000 TEU.
Two new strategies have been implemented to reduce congestion at Nigerian ports. Firstly, after years of wrangling, overdue containers are now being forcibly removed from Nigerian terminals.
Secondly, in the face of opposition from some container owners, more containers are to be stored outside the ports. The process began at Apapa in Lagos in late August and is to be rolled out at all other Nigerian container ports by the end of this year.
