Innovation for wind cargo
NewsNC Nielsen has launched a new line of machines that combines the manoeuvrability of SPMTs with a lifting crane for handling project cargo.
The Swedish port of Helsingborg has acquired a new model LHM 550 mobile harbour crane from Liebherr, mainly for container and project cargo handling. The crane, which was shipped across the Baltic from Liebherr’s waterside Rostock plant, can be operated with dieselhydraulic drive, but can also be operated off the port’s grid via a flexible cable system.
“Our new crane is very efficient and meets the requirements of our customers,” said Niels Vallø, the port’s managing director. “We will use it to handle project cargoes and in other operations, to improve our competitiveness. The investment is part of the extension of our container business at container quay 903, and increases our handling capacity there by 50%.” The crane should become operational by October/November this year.
In the long term, it is planned to have a draught of 13m in the western port area of Helsingborg, including quay 903, with STS container cranes and two MHCs.
One of the cranes in the western port area is a Kalmar STS crane that was originally at the port’s Scania Terminal. In 2013, Kalmar modified the crane and moved it by barge to its new location at the western harbour.
