A study undertaken by London-based Clarksons Research has revealed that, since the new and larger locks on the Panama Canal opened on 26 June 2016, liner companies have quickly upsized their tonnage on several trade lanes. In particular, a rapid increase has taken place on routes connecting Asia with US East Coast ports (USEC) and Europe and the Pacific coast of South America.
